I was on a tour bus heading north from Sondankyla to Utsioki and we passed many egg shaped boulders along the edges of a lake region. It could have been as far north as Inari, but I think it was further south... does anyone know of these boulders? Where exaclty are they?
As far as I know, there is very little developed bouldering north of Rovaniemi. There is quite a lot of boulders in the Lapland region, but not many climbers.
I was in the Ivalo/Inari region a couple of years ago on a work trip, an saw quite many boulders and a couple potentially climbable faces by the road from Ivalo to Inari. I dont remember any egg-shaped ones though, so the place could be south of Inari.
There seems to be only one lake region between Sodankylä and Ivalo (the Vuotso region with Porttipahta and Lokka reservoirs, (map of Finland can be found in http://www.kartta.nls.fi
(free, although registration is obligatory)). I have never been in that area, so I dont know if there are any boulders in there.
