Hei,

Does anybody have any experience of or information on climbing or bouldering in Maderia. In pictures there seems like there is a fair amount of rock but the web has no information on climbing.

Cheers,
Jody

Sorry just to clarify, with Maderia I mean the island off the north west coast of Africa and not say the Maderia in Florida or elsewhere

Hi, unfortunately I do not know anything about Madeira, but I suggest reposting your question at:

http://www.madteam.net/foro/secciones.php/escalada.html

which is a spanish/catalan climbing forum - there the probablity of finding someone, who knows something, might be higher.

Peter

Hi
I wouldnt recoment Madeira for a climbing holiday. Went there last year, diving is just great and island is beautiful (and lots of hiking to do). But climbing......we couldnt find anything. Local adventure shop advertises these "best possible climbing places" ok we did find them one was made to junk yard, other had a new road made throw.....so! Ok might be that in the mountains are some places but we checked two of those they recomended and ...nothing. Any way in winter time weather up in mountains is really bad! by the sea are few boulder blocks, but nothing worth of traveling there to climb. More or less the "stone" is too soft, like sand there. Anyway maybe the spanish people might know something more. I know that there should be coming a climbing guide of Madeira (but it was suppose to be published allready long time ago....) Anyway if you decide to go there have fun!

Cheers for the replies, no climbing but at least I am now able to spell madeira properly (not maderia).

Should have a break from climbing anyway but its hard!
